A claimed listing is a business that has raised its hand, which is what turns a directory from content into a relationship. Directories.ai tracks your claim rate, lets your AI assistant invite owners of unclaimed listings by email, queues claim requests for your review, and turns high-intent visitor signals (like a message sent to an unclaimed listing) into suggested follow-up work.
Why claim rate matters
Claimed listings are more accurate, fresher and more likely to convert into members, reviews and revenue. get_directory_health returns the unclaimed, invited and claimed counts and the claim rate among published listings, so you know whether outreach is worth running and where it will pay off.
The claim workflow
Everything below is available to your assistant, with you approving the decisions that matter.
- Find the best targets: unclaimed listings with complete contact details and real visitor interest
- Invite: invite_listing_claim marks a listing “invited” and, with a contact email, sends the owner an invitation, with a direct link when your directory has a verified custom domain
- Review: list_claim_requests and review_claim_request approve or reject submitted claims; approving marks the listing claimed, closes other pending claims and emails the claimant
- Customize: edit the claim page and the claim received, approved and rejected emails with update_system_template
For directories hosted on your own site
If your site lives in your own codebase, claim links and visitor tracking are offered as integration playbooks. The assistant checks your account setup, tells you what only you can do in the dashboard (secrets never pass through chat) and opens a pull request adding the feature to your site for you to merge.
Once visitor tracking is installed, a message sent to an unclaimed listing automatically creates a task proposing a claim invitation to that business, the highest-intent moment to reach them.

What does it mean to claim a listing?
A business owner proves they run the business and takes ownership of its listing, so they can keep details accurate and engage with visitors.
Does the AI send invitation emails on its own?
Only when you ask it to invite specific listings. Outreach is something you direct and approve; the assistant can show you the list first.
Can claims work if my site is hosted elsewhere?
Yes. Use the claim-links integration playbook: your assistant sets up the account side and opens a pull request for the pages on your site. Claims then flow back into Directories.ai so follow-up emails stop and stats stay accurate.
